BSB40920 – CERTIFICATE IV IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRACTICE

Nationally accredited project management training for project team members, project managers new to the profession and project officers.

This course combines best-practice project management theory with practical examples of workplace application. SEEC Ability’s team of experienced project managers and trainers have extensive on-the-job experience across a broad range of industries. They offer real world examples to demonstrate how the practical application of theory can deliver outstanding projects.

After completing this course, SEEC Ability’s students will have a working knowledge of project management principles and processes to effectively contribute to the management of a project, or to have responsibility for a particular aspect across the entire project lifecycle.

You will be equipped with an understanding of project management methodologies with the application of tools, techniques and methods and will be able to:

  • Assist to identify project objectives, deliverables, constraints and outcomes;

  • Schedule project activities, including planning and monitoring;
  • Produce a project budget and monitor expenditure with others on the team;
  • Contribute to quality planning including applying quality policies and procedures;
  • Determine human resource requirements, skill sets and achievement levels for project activities;
  • Plan project communications, facilitate information flows including reporting;
  • Work with project stakeholders using effective communication techniques;
  • Assist with risk management;
  • Contribute to procurement and contract requirements, contractor selection and management;
  • Apply project controls throughout the project lifecycle; and
  • Contribute to project improvement, lessons learned and finalisation activities.

This course is suitable for individuals who identify and apply project management skills and knowledge in a wide variety of contexts.

Job titles for these roles may include contracts officers, project administrators, quality officers and small business operators.

The Certificate IV in Project Management Practice is a nationally recognised, competency-based qualification. This course combines best-practice project management theory with practical examples of workplace application

It consists of 9 competency units. 3 are core units and the other 6 can come from the listed electives or other accredited units from relevant Certificate IV level or higher qualifications.

Core units:

  • BSBPMG420 – Apply project scope management techniques

  • BSBPMG421 – Apply project time management techniques

  • BSBPMG422 – Apply project quality management techniques

Elective units – Group A:

  • BSBPMG423 – Apply project cost management techniques

  • BSBPMG424 – Apply project human resources management approaches

  • BSBPMG425 – Apply project information management and communications techniques

  • BSBPMG426 – Apply project risk management techniques

  • BSBPMG427 – Apply project procurement procedures

  • BSBPMG428 – Apply project life cycle management processes

  • BSBPMG429 – Apply project stakeholder engagement techniques

Elective units – Group B:

  • BSBLDR413 – Lead effective workplace relationships

  • BSBPEF402 – Develop personal work priorities

12 months to 2 years – dependent upon mode of delivery

  • It is preferable that the student has access to workplace projects as a member of the team or leader of a small project.

  • Will require good literacy and numeracy

  • Have access to computer and internet

For this Nationally Recognised Qualification, the assessment for BSB41515 is against the competency standards in the Business Service Training Package.

Students are required to undertake a number of assessment activities, including:

  • Assessment tasks
  • Written question and answers: and
  • Provide a portfolio of evidence

Students can expect to spend 40 to 60 hours on assessment tasks.

This course provides a practical hands-on style workshop that addresses the key knowledge and skills required by Project Managers. It incorporates a blend of formal learning, experiences and interactive sessions that provide a sound understanding of how to manage the areas of greatest importance to most Project Managers.
